I am James Ellis III — who, as odd as it may sound, has no middle name. Probably like you, my story has lots of layers. What matters most is that I’m a blood-bought follower of Jesus committed to living a life that bears godly fruit. Thus far, my vocation as a pastor has involved sojourning from this place to that, but I am far from lost. Frederick Douglass’ words speak to me from his 1845 memoir, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: “I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and incur my own abhorrence.” God is the Gorilla Glue that keeps me together.
